It is one of the finest halls in the palace of Campidoglio. It is richly decorated and can accommodate up to 300 people. Its terrace oversees the world-renown Imperial Forum. The hall can be accessed from the Palace of Senate or from Piazza del Campidoglio, through the Vignola staircase.
It was built upon the request of pope Pio VII, who at the beginning of the nineteenth century, wanted to enrich the decor of the palace of Campidoglio with busts of illustrious Italians of all times: Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, Petrarca, Michelangelo and many others thus continue to take part in the life of the city from this place. Today the hall is used for public ceremonies, press conferences and other public events.
